The Annual Consents Exercise has got off to an excellent start with operators having already submitted around 95% of applications for 2024 onshore and offshore oil and gas production consents.

NEO Energy Production UK Limited (NEO) has been fined £100,000 for breaching its combined vent consent for the Donan, Lochranza and Balloch fields, around 200km northeast of Aberdeen. 

The North Sea Transition Authority has imposed a penalty of £125,000 on CNOOC for venting without consent at its Buzzard field on two separate occasions in the space of a fortnight.

The Petroleum Act 1998 vests all rights to onshore petroleum in the Crown, including the rights to search, bore for and get it. It empowers the Authority to grant licences to search for and bore for and get petroleum to such persons as they see fit
