Overview

We regulate the licensing of exploration and development of the UK’s offshore and onshore oil and gas resources, gas storage and unloading activities in accordance with the Strategy and the UK Government’s target of net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.

Decommissioning and Repurposing Taskforce

The Decommissioning and Repurposing Taskforce’s (DaRT) objective is to support industry to reduce the cost of decommissioning and assist the Government with meeting its net zero target, by providing strategic direction, oversight and delivery of key projects.

Field operatorship

The licence requires that only an approved operator may manage or supervise the exploration and production phases of an oil or gas development. The objective of this requirement is to ensure that field operations are undertaken competently.

Production

Our focus is to ensure that fields are managed to ensure economic recovery of hydrocarbons, whilst supporting the drive to net zero carbon by 2050, in line with individual field development plans.

The North Sea Transition Deal

The North Sea Transition Deal is an agreement between industry and government to deliver an orderly energy transition. The NSTA is helping deliver on many of the aims of the deal.
