Decommissioning and Repurposing Taskforce

The Decommissioning and Repurposing Taskforce’s (DaRT) objective is to support industry to reduce the cost of decommissioning and assist the Government with meeting its net zero target, by providing strategic direction, oversight and delivery of key projects.

Licensing rounds

We hold offshore and onshore petroleum licensing rounds, inviting applications from companies and making awards to those bids that promise to ensure economic recovery of the UK’s oil and gas resources, whilst supporting the drive to net zero carbon by 2050.

About us

We license, regulate and influence the UK oil, gas and carbon storage industries. We support UK energy security, drive emissions reduction from UK supplies, and help accelerate the transition to net zero to realise the potential of the North Sea as an integrated energy basin.

Carbon capture and storage

Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) is critical to the UK achieving net zero – government aims to capture and store 20-30 million tonnes of CO2 per year by 2030 and over 50 million tonnes/yr by 2035.

Energy integration

NSTA analysis shows the UK Continental Shelf (UKCS) can make a major contribution to net zero. Oil and gas infrastructure and capabilities can be leveraged for CCS, offshore wind deployment, and hydrogen transport and storage.
